Turkish Shootdown of Syrian Fighter Jet

On March 23, 2014 Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed that the Turkish Air Force shot down a Syrian fighter aircraft near the Kasab border crossing between the Syrian region of Latakia and Turkey’s Hatay province. Turkish officials said the Syrian aircraft strayed into Turkish airspace and they acted in self defense.
